We are Northern Ontario’s preferred gateway.

WestJet Announces Service to Greater Sudbury

SUDBURY, Ontario –Today, WestJet announced that on February 3, 2017, it will launch service between the Greater Sudbury Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport. The service will be offered by Westjet’s regional airline, WestJet Encore, which operates a 78 seat Bombardier Q400 and will begin service with one daily round trip flight and increase service to three daily flights in May 2017.

“We’re very excited WestJet has chosen to serve Northern Ontario from the Greater Sudbury Airport. Today’s announcement by WestJet introduces greater choice into the Sudbury travel market, giving the community travel options and flexibility.” stated Todd Tripp, CEO of the Greater Sudbury Airport.

“The Greater Sudbury Airport we believe is strategically located and well positioned to facilitate and support the travel needs of the Greater Sudbury region and beyond. Our passengers and guests regularly comment that they enjoy our airport, but wish they could get to more destinations; we are hopeful that WestJet’s announcement today will provide that opportunity.” added Tripp.

WestJet Encore, launched in 2013, has been changing the air travel landscape for regional markets as they continue to expand throughout Canada and the U.S.

“WestJet is enriching lives and liberating Canadians coast to coast from the high cost of air travel,” said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice‐President, Commercial. “As Canada’s low‐fare leader, we are offering residents of Greater Sudbury the opportunity to fly more affordably and connect seamlessly into our expanding national and international network. With as many as 115 daily departures available via Toronto Pearson – more than at any other airport in our network – these flights perfectly match the needs of both business and leisure travellers. Combined with the extended reach of our more than 40 airline partners around the world, getting around just got a whole lot easier for northerners.”

Dr. Bish Bora, Chair of the Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation is delighted to see this air service finally come to fruition. “Attaining new air service has long been one of our top priorities, and to be able to announce, today, that WestJet will join our current roster of air service providers is a tremendous win for not only our airport, but our entire community.”
