2020-10-14 – Sudbury, ON – As air travel begins to steadily increase, the Greater Sudbury Airport launched its “TravelCare + Strategy,” a commitment and a comprehensive program that outlines the steps the airport and its partners have taken to be ready for the new realities of air travel, and to lead the aviation industry in advancing the future of healthy travel.

The Greater Sudbury Airport is proud to announce it has been awarded the Safe Travels Stamp. The Safe Travels Stamp is an international symbol designed to allow travellers to recognize companies around the world, which have adopted health and hygiene, standardized protocols – so consumers can experience ‘Safe Travels.’

Tourism Industry Association of Ontario President & CEO, Beth Potter said “We are delighted to confirm that the Greater Sudbury Airport has been awarded the Safe Travels Stamp. Across Canada, tourism businesses big and small are doing all they can to offer Canadians the best travel experience. More and more Canadians are looking closer to home to escape from the challenges of and rediscovering their own provinces. When they see the ‘Safe Travels Stamp’ has been awarded to the facility or destination they’re planning to visit, they will know that they are upholding the highest standards of health and safety and demonstrating they are adhering to the global health protocols issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council.”

As government restrictions on air travel begin to be lifted and flights increase, the Greater Sudbury Airport is ready to connect passengers with business colleagues, families and friends across Canada and the world. “We are intent on exceeding international standards,” comments Dawn Larsen, Manager of Communications and Customer Experience.

Airport management knew early on, that as the world emerges from the COVID crisis and passengers are ready for air travel once again, that the airport had to be ready to instill travel confidence for airline passengers. That is the Greater Sudbury Airport’s promise behind their TravelCare + campaign, launched in early June of 2020.

“The world and our industry have changed, and we have quickly changed along with it implementing enhanced cleaning and transparent communications that are critical for our passengers,” comments Larsen “Smarter airports deliver a safer experience for travellers, and safer travellers contribute to a healthier world.”

Healthy travel practices implemented throughout the terminal follow local, provincial and national health guidelines that safeguard and protect the health of all passengers and airport personnel. Passengers will experience the airport’s five point TravelCare+ commitment, which includes the highest standards for cleaning and hygiene, clear communications, enhanced safety protocols and the introduction of technology advancements.

1. A touchless mobile parking payment solution.
2. Healthy travel education and signs displayed throughout the terminal.
3. Physical distancing markers on flooring in high-traffic areas, queuing, and elevators.
4. Protective acrylic barriers to protect employees and passengers.
5. Increased cleaning and disinfecting of high traffic areas, such as security checkpoints, elevators, restrooms, and airport seating areas.
6. Hand sanitizing dispensers installed throughout the terminal.
7. High-touchpoint surfaces such as baggage carts, wheelchairs, vending machines, handrails, access doors and elevator buttons are consistently sanitized.
8. Restricted terminal access to ticketed passengers and airport personnel.
9. Daily screening of all airport personnel.
10. Facial coverings are available for sale in terminal vending machines.
11. In May, ahead of the government regulations, the Greater Sudbury Airport required all airport personnel and passengers to wear facial coverings inside the terminal.
12. Airlines have implemented temperature checks prior to boarding.
13. These are changing times, and as we emerge from this crisis and air travel increases, it is recommended for passengers to check with their airlines to access the most up-to-date requirements for air travel. The airline websites and social media channels will be passengers’ best resources in understanding how to travel safely and efficiently. It is highly recommended that passengers research the travel restrictions and requirements of their destination city and country prior to embarking on their travel plans.
