Passenger numbers and travellers at the Greater Sudbury Airport are sky rocketing this year.
The Greater Sudbury Airport posted a 29% increase in the number of travellers visiting the airport in August 2017, with 24,893 touching down or taking off compared to 19,330 in 2016.
The number of travellers for the first eight months of 2017 is also up by over 16%. So far, 174,019 travellers have come through the airport, compared to 149,879 in 2016.
The significant increase is due to a combination of factors. According to Todd Tripp, Greater Sudbury Airport CEO, “this substantial growth can be attributed to the air carriers meeting passenger demand through improved scheduling, a stronger focus on flight reliability, and the upsizing of aircraft for certain flights. Additionally, the introduction of a new air carrier to the Sudbury market has been extremely beneficial.”
The Greater Sudbury Airport anticipates a steady increase overall for the rest of the calendar year.
The Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation is a not-for-profit, non-share Capital Corporation that manages the Greater Sudbury Airport (YSB).
